It can be a struggle choosing a gift for friends these days – we live in a world where we all have a crazy amount of stuff already. We generally don’t ‘need’ things in the way we might have done a couple of generations ago. Back then, there were certain gadgets and household items you might want and have to save up for ages to get, but now with so much being available so cheaply, there are relatively few items that someone really needs that you can buy them as a gift.
So, when you’re scratching your head to think of a present, frivolous can be the best way forward. Give them something fun that they don’t have any great need for, and may not serve any huge practical function. It’ll just make them smile every time they see or use it, and think of the lovely friend that gave it to them.
We all like to play, but somehow unless we remind ourselves of this fact when we’re grown ups, we can forget and begin to take life too seriously. If your friend needs reconnecting with her inner child, gift her a new board game that you, she and whoever else is with you can enjoy. There are some fab party games out there – Cards Against Humanity and Never Have I Ever are just two examples. These kinds of games are guaranteed to bring out anyone’s sense of fun, as long as they’re not a bad loser!
A worded tee or tank
The craze for worded t-shirts and tanks seems to know no bounds, and there are loads of great ‘sayings’ that have been printed up and worn in recent years. A quick search online will bring you a huge range of different funny tops – it’s just a matter of sifting through and finding the one that works for your friend’s sense of humour. And if you’re not sure about whether your friend would sport a worded tee herself, then there’s always the option to accessorise her kids with a cute and sassy message. Take a look at these funny baby onesies from ShopBetches and you’re bound to find one that will suit the character of either your friend or their child.
Get something for the dog!
The world of dog accessories is huge these days, and if your friend has a dog, then you’ll have no problem coming up with a cute and funny gift for them. The average pooch could always do with a new feeding bowl if only for reasons of hygiene (!) and there are so many to choose from. Pick one that either adds over the top style to the dog’s corner of the house or makes their owner laugh with a silly message printed on the front. Or, if they like to dress their dog, there are all kinds of fun doggy hoodies and coats online.
These are just a few ideas, of course. Sometimes, you’ll spend ages searching for the perfect gift for a friend, but the best ones are often those that you just stumble across, either when you’re out and about in the shops or just browsing online. Next time something catches your eye and makes you giggle, buy it. If you and your friends share the same sense of humour, you can store it away for the next time you need to give a gift.
