Love stories. We all have them, and we all have those fantasy fairy tale love stories that we WISH we had, right? My own love story is pretty boring...I met Chris in a bar after work one day and we became friends, which led to us dating - and we married just a few months later on a whim. Thirteen years later, I guess that whirlwind romance is a bit of a crazy love story, but at the time, it was just very...average.
When I watch romantic movies, a small part of me longs for a love story like those captured in those moments on the big screen. The excitement, the romance and the big, beautiful happy ending...my own love story may be more realistic than the ones we see in movies, but sometimes I just wish it was a bit more inspiring.
My favorite love stories are very different but have a central theme: coming together against all odds. I'm a dreamer, what can I say? I like to believe that anything is possible and that everything works out in the end!
The Top 5 Love Stories of All Time
A Lot Like Love - Starring Amanda Peet and Ashton Kutcher
Two people by chance and have instant chemistry. They reconnect off and on throughout the years, serving as a touchstone for each other when life gets tough. I think we all have that person, but it's usually a friend of the same gender. What happens when it's a male/female friendship? Each time you come together, you get to know each other a little more. Years can pass without speaking to each other, yet when you come together, it's like not a day has passed. And sometimes you break into a Bon Jovi song.
Serendipity - Starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale
Fate. It all boils down to fate, of which I am a believer. Serendipity makes me think of all of those people I met once upon a time who I felt an immediate connection to. You know the ones - they ones that made you think, "A different time, a different place..." Except in Serendipity, a different time and place HAPPENS and it's magic and we find that sometimes when two people are truly meant to be together, life pushes them towards each other when they've given up!
Say Anything - Yeah, yeah, another John Cusack movie. Oh, and Ione Skye.
Here's the thing about Say Anything: it taught us all that anyone can be in love - no matter the class or circumstance in life. We all remember that iconic moment when Lloyd stands outside Diane's window blasting In Your Eyes, who could forget? Say Anything showed us that no one is out of your league when it comes to love.
Edward Scissorhands - Starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder
We've seen movies about a pair of star-crossed lovers before, but Edward Scissorhands gives a whole new perspective to the term "from the wrong side of the tracks." Edward Scissorhands has always touched my heart because not only did she fall in love with him despite the fact that he wasn't technically a human, but that never stopped loving her...even as the movie ended, he was still trying to show her his love. We should all be so lucky as to have such a committed former flame!
The Fault in Our Stars - Starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort
Hazel and Gus are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them -- and us – on an unforgettable journey.
Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group.
THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, based upon the number-one bestselling novel by John Green, explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love.
Starring Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Willem Dafoe, Nat Wolff, Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Mike Birbiglia, and Emily Peachey, The Fault in Our Stars is directed by Josh Boone based on the novel by John Green.

I'll probably catch this when it comes out on DVD, but it sounds like a great movie, so I am sure I will see it at some point.

When Serendipity first came out I thought it was extremely cheesy. The guy I was dating convinced me to watch it, he loved it - I teased. I watched it again about a year ago and truly appreciated it. I guess it shows how much I've grown over the years. It's a sweet love story. Another favorite is The Notebook.
Francine Morrell

I'm hesitating a bit about seeing it. I cry at the drop of a hat and movies that leave you with a lump in your throat, Well I have to watch alone. I'm not a cute crier haha. I loved your list and I totally agree. I was married for 25 years with 3 daughters who has always been jealous when you see such romance and think I want that just once in my life. Trust me when I say ...Romance is popcorn and movie and all the little things that aren't in movies. I just happen to be one that thought I needed or wanted more. Don't get me wrong I have learned to be stronger then I thought just hurt my family in the process not something I ever intended. 🙂 Thanks for sharing and letting me vent...was truly not my intention just honest 🙂

I absolutely LOVE Serendipity!! Such a cute movie. I had a pretty humorous love story. My now hubby said he knew he would marry me the first time he saw me. I turned him down for months on end. He even proposed after our first day, which was also a big fat no. lol. Obviously he eventually won me over and we are really happy, so glad he stuck it out and didn't give up on me!
Dawn Lopez
I'm quite the dreamer too and I think all woman wish for a whirlwind romance that sweeps them off their feet at one point or another. Once you find the right person though, I think real life is way better than any movie! I have a feeling a big ol' box of Kleenex is needed in order to watch this movie!
