This summer, let your imagination run free. Journey into an awe-inspiring world of action fantasy and visual wonder with popular French comics heroine Adèle Blanc-Sec as she leaps from the pages to the screen! On August 13, 2013, Shout! Factory, in collaboration with EuropaCorp, invite families and the young-at-heart across America to be captivated by one of the most highly anticipated international motion pictures of all time when Luc Besson’s THE EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES OF ADÈLE BLANC-SEC unleashes on DVD and on two-disc BLU-RAY COMBO PACK.
If you have never seen a foreign film, more specifically a French film it may take a bit to get used to the movie. They are big with dramatics and their sense of humor may be slightly different then what we consider the "norm". That being said I still thought this was a fun movie for adults and kids alike. From the first time I saw the trailer and all throughout the movie it reminded me of a female Indiana Jones but with a touch more of fantasy to it.
The movie started quick with no explanation of what is really happening. I gathered after a while that Adele was doing her quests with the purpose to help her sister but how her sister got into her currently condition was lost on me. They didn't go into details until close to halfway through the movie. Adele and her twin sister were playing a game of tennis when a freak accident occurred and her sister was impaled through the back of her head with Adele's hat pin. For five years she has kept her sister aline but non functioning while she went on a personal quest to heal her sister.
A little tid bit that I found funny was that at the end of the movie she sails off on the Titanic (of all ships) and it shows a sign saying "have a wonderful trip". Not sure if this is going to lead to a sequel but they certainly left it open for it.
