I love the ocean and all of the little - and big - creatures within. I recently visited The Seas with Nemo and Friends at Epcot while in Orlando for the Monkey Kingdom Event, and I am so excited to show you all of the wonderful marine life that I got to see there!
Let's start with one of my favorite sea creatures, the sea turtle! Now, we do have sea turtles in Miami, but you don't see them very often. Seeing this little buy swimming around the aquarium in The Seas was such a special treat because I never get to see them that close at home!
Fun Facts About The SEAS With Nemo and Friends
First and foremost, I have to tell you that I was incredibly impressed with the size of the aquarium - it's 5.7 million gallons!! I loved seeing all of the marine life swimming around with so much space!
The Seas has a dedicated team of caretakers, who come in twice a day and feed every single animal - there are even some that they hand feed! The sharks are fed a healthy diet to prevent them from wanting to eat the fish. Pretty smart, huh?
There is a team of divers who go in and check the health of each fish and marine animal daily to make sure that no one is sick, but there are times when a fish will take a turn quickly...and that's when the sharks' natural instinct takes over and they gobble it up!
Did you know that you can purchase a diving trip in The Seas?! You can!!
For those without scuba certification, you can do an above-water experience, so you still get to be up close and personal with the marine life, but not underwater.
The Seas is home to a 400 lb Southern Stingray, which is only found in Australia! This gal was massive!
The Seas with Nemo and Friends is also home to three dolphin, and they do little exercises each day to practice their communication skills. The scientists at Epcot are trying to learn more about their communication and figure out how WE, as humans, can communicate better with them.
One of these dolphins is so smart that he used to work for the Navy.
I am totally serious.
It's classified information, but I have a hunch he had some type of submarine spying type of job.
Purely a guess...he looks like the spying type.
Go see Monkey Kingdom in theaters now! It's such a cute movie!
