One of the items on my travel bucket list is to see the Northern Lights. While Miami might seem like an exotic locale to some, my idea of exotic is totally different: cold, snowy, and far, far away from the tropics. Traveling to see the Northern Lights is a common tourist destination during the Winter season and I can't think of a better way to experience this natural phenomena than by taking a Northern Lights Norway Cruise!

The Northern Lights - aurora borealis - are caused by charged electrons and protons entering the atmosphere from above. These particles collide with the Earth's atmosphere and create brilliant and breathtaking natural light displays.

    Ultimate northern lights

As I'm sure most of you know, I've been on many cruises. They are an especially fun way to visit different destinations and see amazing sights along the way. By taking a Norway cruise to see the Northern Lights through Hurtigruten Cruises, I think that I would be able to satisfy my craving for a cruise adventure, get to see such an amazing natural phenomenon, and experience an entirely different part of the world!

According to Jonathan Tourtellot, the founding Director of National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations, “Hurtigruten is unique in the world. With Hurtigruten you are really part of Norway, part of a Norwegian tradition. The crew is Norwegian, the food and experience is Norwegian. Hurtigruten is identified with the country it operates in. That’s not true with conventional cruise liners.”

Hurtigruten Cruises has 11 ships that depart almost every day of the year from 34 ports along the Norwegian Coast. What an excellent way to immerse yourself in Norwegian culture! The Northern Lights aren't the only thing to see while in Norway, and Hurtigruten Small Ship Cruises make sure to cover all of the bases! The Winter in Norway provides especially unique shore activities like polar expeditions, a husky sledge adventure and even a snowmobile trip into the Polar Night through a frozen landscape with beautiful views of the Arctic Wilderness.

Whether on the Hurtigruten Northern Lights Norway Cruise ship or on shore, there is spectacular scenery with unmatched beauty and charm across Norway.

I have not been on one of these cruises but my mom has. She LOVED it and the pictures she brought back were just spectacular.

I saw the Northern Lights once when I was in Canada and it is breathtaking, but to see it while at the North Pole, on this incredible cruise would be a life-changing experience!

I'd really love to go there one day, it's just one breathtaking place! We see northern lights here, but I bet it's not nearly as pretty as there!

Never been to a cruise yet but it is on my bucket list someday. I have heard great stories from friends who have already gone especially the nice experience and of course the beautiful pictures...

What gorgeous photos! I think this would be my husband's dream cruise. He loves snow and ice. I am more a warm weather gal, but the area is so beautiful, I might have to let him have his way.
