This may shock you guys, but I travel a lot. I know, I know, you can hardly believe it, right? While I do travel quite often, it's rare that my husband, Chris, accompanies me. In reality, Angeline is usually my traveling companion because Chris only has two weeks off of work each year and I travel much more often than that. When he does join us on our adventures, trips are usually short and sweet without a lot of downtime.
That needs to change.
Hello, my name is Jenn of TheRebelChick.com, and this year my #AlamoDriveHappy family travel resolution is that I promise to have one on one time with my husband on our next trip!
We have not had a quiet evening alone during a vacation since we went on vacation without Angeline last year. It was like a five day date night. It was amazing and romantic and I came home feeling like I had just come back from my honeymoon.
When you travel with your family, do your kids come first? Of course they do! My family did not travel while I was growing up, so when we are planning a family trip, I tend to put Angeline's pleasure before my own. I want to give her that exciting vacation experience that I never had when I was a child. I think I've overdone it, to be honest.
We've gone shopping in Barcelona when I really wanted to just wander the museums...we ate pastry in Croatia when all I wanted was to take photos of the shoreline...we went zip lining in Puerto Rico when all I really wanted to do was lay on that beach and soak up the sun.
Do you notice how there's not a lot of "My husband and I did this," or "I loved doing so-and-so with my husband?" That's why this resolution is so important. Angeline is 17. She's heading off to college in a year and a half - hopefully, knock-on-wood - and then what will Chris and I do when we go on vacation? We need to start carving out time for each other NOW, and learn to travel together again before she's gone and we are left in our lounge chairs on the beach, staring at each other and wondering what to do with our day because we don't have to entertain anyone else for a change!
We are working on planning a Valentine's Day weekend getaway and/or a Spring Break cruise. There are so many possibilities, we can't make up our minds!
What's your travel resolution for 2015? Do you have any trips planned yet? I want to know how you plan to break out of the basic vacation mode and shake it up! Push your boundaries, do something crazy...like go rappelling off a waterfall in a rain forest on a dare.
Just kidding, you don't have to do that....unless you WANT to.

Great contest!! We all need more vacation time with our loved ones!
Heather
my husband is like yours. He only gets two weeks vacation s year as well and we don't travel often mainly because we don't have the means. But I hope to one day it's the hubs. Right now it's things like Disneyland and Legoland....not grown up things.
Jenn
What a great contest! Your vacation looks amazing!! Right now ours is all about the kids,Disney and theme parks hopefully once they are older we can venture more.

Such a cool adventure! My resolution in 2015 is to also carve out more time with hubby. With 2 kids and no money, it is hard, but I know it's necessary!
Melissa Pezza
What a great resolution! Quality time with the hubby is super important, and if you can get that in on a great trip, even better.
Karen
I need to get busy and enter that contest! My resloution would be to travel more, and see at least one place I have never see before.

We moved to Michigan a coupe years ago and our goal is to explore Michigan each summer!!!

A five day date night would be so much fun. Your photos are making me envious as I don't get to travel as much as I did before failed back surgery. Thanks so much for sharing your adventure.

Travel resolutions are about the only ones I follow through with, and fortunately, 2014 was a fantastic year for travel and me. In addition to the six US trips I took, I went to Bonaire, the Dominican Republic, Cozumel, Vietnam and Grand Cayman! For 2015 I've already booked Fiji in February and Turkey in March. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to the Caribbean a couple of times as well. My husband has the same issue with vacation time, so I'm only able to travel with him on two trips a year. That makes our time together incredibly special. Good luck with getting back into the swing of traveling alone together with your husband. I have a feeling you're gonna love being an empty-nester!

I am with you on this. My husband and I rarely get an evening alone, it's not easy with 5 kids, and to get an actual vacation without them (love them as I do) would be absolutely amazing.I would be happy with just checking into a hotel for the weekend and dining out all weekend long, just the two of us. I know, I don't ask for a lot!

We used to travel all the time (military family) but once we hit the states, we just stopped. Now we have a kiddo and all I want to do is be able to make it to the beach (2 hours away). So I suppose a resolution is in order!
Natalie
Great giveaway! I love to travel (I should since i run a travel blog!!), and I have to balance my travel schedule with my family relationships. My husband gets three weeks off a year, so he tries to travel with me as much as possible. When he can't go with me, I usually trade between my parents and my sister. My only consistent travel buddy is my toddler girl! 🙂 I've got some big travel resolutions for 2015 including adding six more countries to my passport!

Nice to see that you came up with a good outcome to spend more time with your husband. You had quite an adventure. 2015? I need to go on a vacation. I have not done one in probably 10 years and it’s such a shame that I have not done so. I want to go to DR, so I just need to go ahead and plan that.
Michelle Hwee
Wow you have had so many cool experiences and adventures! When I went to San Francisco, CA I rented a car from the Alamo company. I love how you went zipling. Those pictures are so beautiful, love how vibrant everything is!

Firstly though i want to do something daring ropping off a waterfall does not even come close to what i am thinking in terms of shaking thins up lol but a good thought nonetheless. I have plans to travel a lot in 2015, i too never did much traveling with my family but now that i am an adult earning my own money and yet to have kids i can do something before all hell breaks lose lol.
Roch
My family also did not travel when we were growing up since all the family funds go to education. Now that we have all graduated from school and earning our own money, we are thankful to have the budget to travel so we really plan for our trips every year. Our travel resolution for 2015 is to go to at least one Asian country and one local province in the Philippines.
Stephanie
Great contest! We are years away from the kids going off to college, but I've told my hubby to plan a trip to go on as soon as we drop the kids off to college. It'll be a great escape to be with each other and the starting block for our next steps together in life. WE haven't planned any trips for next year, I'm waiting to find out when Ben will be home from his deployment. I can't wait!

I have a question about entering daily. Do I need to upload a different picture and write a different resolution each time or can I use the same one? Thanks in advance! 🙂
Jenn
You can use the same one but honestly, I'd love to see different photos! 🙂

Got it, thanks! 🙂

It's such a great thing that you travel so much. Such a shame that your husband only has 2 weeks off in a year, mine is the same and it can be so annoying trying to plan things around this. I'd love some one on one time with him too but luckily I've booked some 2-day trips for us in the coming year so we'll be travelling together. I hope you get that one on one time with your husband too and when you do enjoy every moment 🙂

I am taking a British Isles cruise in the fall, and I have been begging my husband to stay overnight in a castle at the end of our cruise.

That is great news and I wish the best of memories for those still devoted to their husbands. My situation is like, probably many others where the kids are more the center of my wife's world than a vacation. Be careful you don't fall too much in love with your babies,..it makes things particularly hard to communicate and even make a minor plan agreeable for committing anything solid for the vacation planners. Best of serenity to the lucky ones!

Very interesting. This is actually a fear of mine. I wouldn't really know what to do without the kids. What do you do? Kids preoccupy a lot of our what are we going to do, making sure they are alright.
Jenn
We left our daughter with our in-laws and went out to the nearby mountain and took a drive, then took the tram up to the top and had lunch at a fancy restaurant! 🙂
