We all want to be more involved in social good, right? As much as we might want to be involved in charitable causes and help social causes, sometimes life just doesn't leave a lot of time...and then we feel guilty.
Well, feel guilty no more because now there's a way to give back, to be selfless...and it's as easy as snapping a selfie on your smartphone!
I was asked to share this fab new promotion as part of a compensated blog campaign, and I couldn't be happier to do it! Johnson & Johnson's Donate a Photo is a free app that gives you the opportunity to give back to causes you care about by doing something that you probably already do all the time and turning it into a way to do good.
Yeah, I'm talking about a selfie! Can you imagine, sharing a simple pic like this one I posted on Instagram last month on my Carnival cruise - that can actually help a social cause that you care about?
Johnson & Johnson's Donate a Photo app went live in April 2013 and it's pretty simple: you can really make a difference by raising money and awareness for causes that you care about through the very simple act of just taking a photo!
The Donate a Photo app just had new enhancements go live on July 28, 2013, the same day that the HEALTHY ESSENTIALS coupon book appeared in local newspapers across the country and online at www.healthyessentials.com.
So, what is the Donate a Photo app and how does it help?
For every photo shared through the Donate a Photo app, Johnson & Johnson will donate one dollar to one of its non-profit partners, which each person chooses from a rotating list.
The Causes
PFLAG: All funds donated through the DAP PFLAG cause go to provide materials (brochures, flyers etc.) for anti-bullying sessions. These sessions reach students, teachers and school leaders with messages about cultivating respect and keeping schools safe for all.
Girl Up: All funds donated through the DAP Girl Up cause help provide outreach efforts to girls, parents and community leaders, provide literacy, numeracy and livelihood training to out of school girls, and helps establish local PTAs to champion girls’ education in Liberia. These efforts help girls return to and stay in school, often after years of absence.
Safe Kids: The Safe Kids Safe Roads initiative aims to teach children and parents about bike helmet and car seat safety. The program achieves these goals both through in-school sessions, as well as through awareness efforts via online promotions and social media.
Through this fun “Selfless Selfie” promotion, Johnson & Johnson is encouraging us to donate “selfies” through the DAP app, and to share our donated photos with friends and social media followers on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - so that they will get involved too! You can donate one photo a day, every day, and make sure that you're using the hashtag #SelflessSelfie when you share them via social media!
When a cause reaches its goal, another takes its place; the causes that have reached their goal stay in the app, so users can continue to learn more about the organizations and see the photos that helped support them.
