With Tropical Storm Isaac breathing down our necks this past week, I had to cancel my trip to Los Angeles.
Le Sigh.
Originally, I had planned a family game night with Chris and Angeline as a way to spend a fun evening together before I left for my week long trip. My going-away Hasbro Game Night ended up being less about last minute family time and more about keeping us all distracted from the impending storm!
I had already done my shopping earlier in the week for hurricane supplies and picked up some great dippable dinner options: Tyson Chicken Nuggets, Ore Ida crinkle fries and adorable little Heinz ketchup packets.
I keep seeing these little Heinz ketchup packets at a fast food chain but didn't know that you could buy them at Walmart! You can read all about my shopping trip at Walmart in this Google+ story.
Chris spent the day picking up the yard and putting away patio furniture so that there wasn't any debris flying around when the storm hit. I was inside scheduling blog posts (in case we lost power), cleaning the house, doing dishes, doing all of our laundry (in case we lost power) and checking the storm tracker every five minutes to see if the storm's path had changed at all (it didn't).
After a day like that, I was even more happy to make a quick, easy and fun dinner for the family for our #DipDipHooray Hasbro Game Night!
While I was waiting for the oven to preheat, I quickly went and entered the UPC codes from my Ore Ida, Tyson and Heinz products in the Hasbro Games sweepstakes Dip to Play site. Once you enter your UPC, you unlock the option to play games - this week's game was Battleship! Not only do you get to play online, but you also have an option to enter the $1000 Hasbro Game Night sweepstakes!
Making dinner with Tyson Chicken Nuggets, Ore Ida fries is so easy! The hardest part is thinking of which dipping sauces to offer your family! Of course we all love Heinz ketchup for our fries, but Chris and Angeline like other options for their Tyson chicken nuggets.
I brought out my little condiment trays and poured ranch dressing and Bajan hot sauce into them for additional dipping options for the Tyson chicken nuggets. It was a Dip Dip Hooray night, after all!
My husband, Chris, brings back all kinds of weird sauces and foods from the West Indies, where he travels for work each month. I personally can't eat that Bajan Hot Pepper sauce, as it literally feels like my mouth is on fire...but he loves dipping everything in it! And like most kids, Angeline will eat anything if it has been dipped in ranch dressing!
After I got dinner started, we had to choose which Hasbro game to play. Angeline loves playing board games so we have a nice stockpile of Hasbro family board games in the house!
Do you like having family game nights? Of course you do, everyone loves family game nights, especially with Hasbro games! Head over to DiptoPlay.com and enter your UPC codes from Heinz, Ore Ida and Tyson products to be able to play fun games! I played Battleship when I entered my codes, it was different playing on the laptop, but still fun!
Oh...and after you enter your UPC codes from your "dippable" products? You get to enter to win a $1000 Hasbro Family Game Night Grand Prize! You can find all the sweepstakes rules here.

Angeline and I had a lot of fun playing LIFE, but Chris was more interested in watching Tropical Storm Isaac on the storm tracker app on his iPad. We still had fun though, but the games move by so quickly when there are only two players!
We both chose the same paths in LIFE, going to college, starting a family, taking the risky road - and we both ended up with twins. I was not happy with twins, but luckily, the game ended before I had to pay to send them off to college! HA HA HA
We hadn't had a family game night in a long time before this, and it was a great reminder of how much we used to enjoy them! Sitting around a Hasbro board game spending quality time together is so much fun and a great way to reconnect with your kids now that they are back in school!
Between homework, friends, play dates, sports and club activities, we barely spend time with our kids during the school year. Taking one night a week to sit around and laugh and play a board game is the perfect way to stay close with your kids.
You can find out more about the Hasbro Game Sweepstakes here and don't forget to check out Tyson, Ore Ida and Heinz to collect those UPCs so that you can enter to win the Hasbro Game Night Grand Prize!!

Thanks for stopping by my site. I am working on this campaign as well and as a matter of fact getting to write my post and YES it is a great distraction from the storm. We are in Naples, Fl what part of the country are you from? I hope the storm misses us both.

I live in Miami! As of this morning it seems to be moving farther out into the Gulf, let's hope that it stays that way! Stay safe!
Stefani
I totally want that Life game! I used to love playing that when I was young.
Kristin Wheeler (MamaLuvsBooks)
Life is our favorite family game to play right now! My kids love it!! Stay safe!!!!
Vanessa: the queen of swag !
great Idea to keep their minds off it and great shop!
Kelly
The only game we're playing right now is peek a boo but it's still a good time and lot of fun 😛

Good thinking on being so prepared in case the power went out! In 2007 we got hit by hurricane-force winds here on the OR coast - it was pretty unexpected and I was in the middle of laundry, and it stayed out for DAYS. I ended up wearing my Wonder Woman Halloween costume under my clothes on the last day because nothing else was clean! (TMI?) ANYWAY! This looks like a ton of fun and you know, the board games would be great to have DURING a power outage, too.

It's been awhile since we've done a family game night.

Wow, you guys know how to have fun!!
My kids LOVE the dino nuggets, too... what is it with them? 😉
Brett
PERFECT storm distraction! I do agree that nuggets are better in dino form. I hope you guys stay safe from the storm....
Billie
Oh man, I miss having game nights. As Jake got older, it's so much harder to convince him to play games with me. Love your new About Me page.
Sara
A game night sounds so fun! My littles LOVE those ketchup dippers packets! They would love a night like this! 🙂

My in-laws just left their mobile home near Englewood area. Looks like Miami has had a lot of rain. Hope you're okay! Looks like you had a wonderful evening. We LOVE family game night!
MomStart (Ashley)
CHicken nuggest and board games... sounds about right.
Anne
I hope you don't get too much rain! We love family game nights, although Life is one of my least favorite games. The unrealistic scenarios just annoy me when I play.
Kathleen
This is a great idea. Thankfully this hurricane has now gone away from us, but I am sure there will be another one soon enough. We have that Elefun game and even my older boys like it LOL.
Kelly
What a great way to distract your family! I hope Isaac changes course and heads to Texas - we are in desperate need of rain!
Rachel
I love the idea of a game night to keep their minds off of whatever is going on around them.
And I agree, nuggets always tasted better when in the shape of Dinos.
Theresa
Love the idea of a game night to take the kids minds off of what is happening. Stay safe!
Stefanie
Aww too bad you had to cancel your trip...your game night looks like a lot of fun though.
RJ
One of my bff's lives in FL and she says the weather is crazy and school has been canceled in several places. I hope it all dies down soon without too much damage. Love the idea of games to take your mind off the storm. Hope y'all are staying dry and safe!

It's scary how things change as the kids get older. I'm hoping to create traditions now, but I know I have little control once the teen ages hit.
