I was never very sporty while growing up. Somehow my clumsiness in the sports field skipped a generation and Angeline became quite the little sporty chick when she went into middle school! Angeline was on the chess team in elementary school and really enjoyed it, but didn't want to continue on that path when she transitioned to middle school. Entering the 6th grade at a brand new school without any of her elementary school friends was difficult for Angeline, so when her social studies teach asked her to try out for the soccer team at the end of the first week of school, she jumped at the chance to meet new people! Joining the girl's soccer team the second week of school was just what she needed; she made new friends and being a part of a team helped boost her self confidence and teach her about team work.
While Angeline went on to play soccer and volleyball in middle school, she ended up not joining any sports teams when she went to high school last year due to having so much homework. While she misses playing sports, she does have physical fitness classes during school, so she's still getting her sweat on, so to speak!
I think it's so important for kids, especially girls, to get involved in sports! To be a part of a team, to feel their physical strength - not to mention the simple value of learning how to have fun, coordination and determination that are involved in playing sports.
Verizon thinks so too! Verizon has created a series of videos featuring the FiOS Football Girl, who uses FiOS to show up her bro with her football savvy.
Verizon wants to hear from parents who are as proud of their daughter’s athletic achievements as they would be if she was a boy. They want to provide a place to go to show that pride – a place to harness and share the empowering impact that sport can have on the lives of girls.
