Everyone loves a shiny new smartphone. It’s hard not to be blinded by the newest features and latest technology. I certainly fell in love with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge curved design and the way it fit in the palm of my hand – but there’s more than meets the eye with this sleek smartphone that I received from Republic Wireless, a fantastic smartphone service that is changing the game in service plans!
All About Republic Wireless
I received my new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge through Republic Wireless, which is a new carrier for me. They’re a smarter smartphone service, and pioneered the idea of “WiFi first,” which resulted in millions in annual savings for their customers. Republic Wireless was recognized for offering the best basic plan by MONEY Magazine, a top pre-paid carrier choice by Consumer Reports and for excellence in user satisfaction by PC Magazine!
Republic’s smartphones deliver high quality and savings by using the less expensive WiFi network when possible and seamlessly connecting to nationwide 4G LTE cellular network whenever necessary. So while they’re out to save you money, you WILL have the 4G LTE when you need it, it’s not like it’s off limits! When outside of WiFi coverage, the smartphone works just like a typical smartphone on the cellular networks of national GSM and CDMA carriers. As a recently divorced woman, I am still adjusting to being a single-income household…any savings I can get, I will take! I am constantly looking for ways to reduce my household expenses and my current cell phone plan was a HUGE one.
So what kind of savings are we talking? Republic Wireless plans start at just $15, and all data plans start at just $20 a month. All plans include unlimited talk and text whether on WiFi or cellular service, and there are no hidden fees or contracts required. There are tons of models of Android phones available through Republic Wireless, check out the full offering here.
I have been using my new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge through the Republic Wireless service for a little over a month now, and I really like both the phone and the service. When I am on WiFi, everything runs really quickly, actually as fast as my home internet service! Apps load immediately and messages through my messaging apps are sent super quickly – which isn’t always the case when using some WiFi services, so that makes me super happy! Imagine trying to participate in a Twitter party and it taking forever for Tweets to go through, no one has time for that nonsense! I was also really happy when using the phone on regular cellular network service, it was quick enough that I couldn’t tell any difference between using this service and my old cellular service. I am really surprised with how smooth the service ran…and I am asking myself why I haven’t tried Republic Wireless much sooner!
A really cool feature offered by Republic Wireless is the The Republic Anywhere app, which launched on June 22!
The Republic Anywhere app allows you to sync your Republic number with any device (laptops, phones & tablets) so that you can stay connected to your text messages even when you’re away from your Republic Wireless serviced phone. The best part? It’s free. You can use the app to send and receive text messages from your computer, using your phone number, just like you do on your phone and sync all your messages & contacts across devices, so all your messages are with you…no matter what device you are using.

5 Features We Love On The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
The Camera’s Capabilities
As a travel blogger, I usually carry around my larger camera during my travels but it could never replace my former smartphone’s camera. A large part of my job is taking photos on the fly and sharing them on social media in real time. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a 12mp rear camera with dual pixel. The dual pixel technology means that auto focus is spot on, so photographing moving objects or trying to take pictures in low light isn’t a problem. This is a HUGE part of my job, being able to shoot great photos while in restaurants in low lighting, as well as outdoor nature photography. I am going to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Barcelona and the Greek Islands over the next month or so, and I am SO excited about having this bad boy with me to take photos!
I already had an inkling of how great the Samsung Galaxy’s camera was, due to a friend in Europe using the phone and sending me photos during his travels. When I knew my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was on the way, he was the first one I asked about photo editing apps and the like. He had no recommendations because the camera was so great on its own! There is even a special selfie helper in the camera!
I love the way the selfie turned out, it’s so much clearer and brighter than what I am used to from a smartphone! This is completely unedited (just resized to fit my blog), so that you can see exactly what we’re working with.
Of course, not everyone is a blogger, but these days cell phones tend to be everyone’s personal camera, so camera quality is important. Which brings me to my next favorite feature…
Pictures, videos and text messages that can never be deleted tend to start taking up a lot of memory. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge comes with 32 Gigabytes of memory to start, but you can add an additional 256GB with a micro SD card. No clouds necessary! Let’s be honest, we all sort of hate those clouds right? Constantly uploading and downloading and searching for your photos can be such a pain!
I’m not the most accident prone person, but I do spend a lot of time on and near the water. It’s the cure for any ailment in life and the best place to celebrate. Plus, I mean I do live in Miami after all, and kayaking is one of my favorite weekend activities. So obviously having a phone with an IP68 rating up to 30 min in 5 feet of water provides peace of mind. It repels splashes, and dunks without having to buy an overpriced waterproof, bulky protective case.
Curves In All The Right Places
There is a trend in smartphones to go bigger and bigger lately. But at some point, it starts to feel like the phone doesn’t fit properly in your hand. For me, The Galaxy S7 edge is “just right.” Large enough that I’m not squinting at the screen while scrolling through Facebook, but still fits comfortably in the palm of my hand. The curved screen does a good job of maximizing every inch of screen space so the phone feels larger than it actually is.
