Crazy Cat Lady Stuff: My Litter Spinner Review

In all my experience blogging, I never thought I would be someone to sit down and tell you that you need to buy a $99 cat litter box...but here I am, getting ready to post my Litter Spinner review for you all!

Ever since we have started fostering kittens for the Humane Society of Greater Miami, we - and I mean "I" - deal with a lot more cleaning of the litter box than we used to.

While we have always had at least two cats, our cats usually end up being indoor/outdoor cats and do some of their business outside. So while we have had as many as three cats at one time in the past, the litter box has never really been a big deal to keep clean. The foster kittens, on the other hand, are not allowed outside AT ALL. That means that in addition to Stripes using the litter box, we now have two little piggy kittens using it...and it fills up quickly!

    the litter spinner review

I received a pitch for a litter box to review a few weeks ago, it's called the Litter Spinner, and retails for $99! I was skeptical, I mean, who pays $99 for a litter box? But my curiosity got the best of me and I agreed to do the review.

If nothing else, I figured, we would end up with two litter boxes, which will come in handy when Tarzan and Gizmo are fully grown cats!

How to Assemble The Litter Spinner

With a little help from Tarzan, I put the Litter Spinner litter box together quite easily.

    litter spinner review

It arrived in about four pieces, the two pieces of the barrel and two pieces that make up the base. It came with screws, the litter trap and a scraper for stuck-on pieces in the litter box.

The two pieces of the base simply snap together like so...

And you screw the two pieces of the barrel together using the provided screws.

Then you slide in the litter trap, which is what you use to clean the litter box when it gets dirty.

In all, it took me about 10 minutes to put the Litter Spinner litter box together and fill it with litter. It wasn't very difficult at all!

Now, my pal Andrew at Mommy's Busy...Go Ask Daddy gave me an awesome idea for this review. Instead of just telling you what I like and dislike in this Litter Spinner review I'm going to give you Tarzan's review of the Litter Spinner too!

Tarzan's weigh-in on the Litter Spinner review

When mom first brought the Litter Spinner box into the living room to put it together, I got excited. Who doesn't enjoy popping in new places?

Unfortunately, she wouldn't let me poop in the box. Doesn't she know that the box is the best part?!!

    cat litter spinner review

What Tarzan likes about the Litter Spinner litter box:

    • It's nice and cozy and no one can see me do my business unless they purposely look right inside the entryway
    • The opening isn't too high up, so I can easily get in and out even though I am only 10 weeks old
    • meow
    • Because it's so easy to clean, mom actually cleans it every day!

What I dislike about the Litter Spinner litter box:

    • I don't get to see mom get grossed out by scooping up my poop anymore 🙁
    • meow

So, Tarzan and Gizmo give the Litter Spinner two paws up, but they refused to let me catch them with the camera getting into or out of the litter box.

Now, for my portion of the Litter Spinner review

I like it! It was pretty easy to put together and it's pretty easy to use. You just spin the barrel around so that the litter rotates through the trap and any clumps stick in it. Then you just tap the trap to make sure all of the loose litter dislodges before pulling the trap out and emptying it.

I LOVE that I don't have to scoop anything, and when the cat pee clumps on the bottom of the Litter Spinner, I just tap the side a few times to shake it loose - no scraping!

    Litter Spinner Features

    • Cleans your cat's litter in 20 seconds
    • Made in the USA of recycled Material-Patented Design
    • Reduces common litter odors, controls dust and cat litter mess
    • No batteries, plugs or cords for your safety and your cats
    • Attractive Appearance - No open mess and less odor
    • Easy to Clean and more SANITARY than a standard litter box
    • Uses any clumping cat litter
    • Made from recycled material and uses less litter so it is better for the environment
    • 3 YEAR Warranty

Now, as an owner of multiple cats, I have to say that I do really like the Litter Spinner litter box. However, it does not live up to 100% of my expectations, based on the description on the Litter Spinner website.

While the Litter Spinner website claims that there is no mess, my cats still track litter outside the Litter Spinner when they jump out. I use a litter mat to keep them from tracking it all over the house and that helps, but I still have to sweep it up every day. This might just be because they are still kittens and are messy, so we will see if that improves when they grow up.

Another thing is that before you pull out the Litter Spinner trap to remove the litter, you have to shake it a few times inside the Litter Spinner or a lot of litter will come out with it. This isn't a big deal, you just have to remember to shake off the loose litter before removing the trap.

There are plenty of colors to choose from, ranging from the tan one that I have (my family room is beige so it blends well) to pink, black etc. They have a Litter Spinner in pretty much every color you can think of!

The Litter Spinner sells for $99 on LitterSpinner.com and they provide free shipping within the US.

I know that seems like a ton of money for a litter box, but if you loath cleaning the litter box as much as I do because of the scooping, then the Litter Spinner just might be worth the $99 for you!

I received a complimentary Litter Spinner to facilitate this post, but all opinions are my own.

Wow, how cool. I am amazed by the cool things companies come out with. I have two cats with a lid box, that I scoop twice a day. I love that this is made in USA and does it for you!

Now if they had a German Shepherd version... my dog wouldn't be waking me in the middle of the night to go out... lol.

I think that is brilliant! I don't have cats now but when I did, I had two and I hated litter boxes!

lol that was cute. A hundred bucks is a lot of money for a place for your cat to poo but I think it really seems worth it. Pooper scooping is my second reason for not wanting an inside cat... Now only if my little ones weren't so hyper, I'd be able to become a full on cat lady!!

Love the 'can you spin it with a cat in it?' comment. Made me laugh out loud. I really like the concept of this and might try it when I get another cat.

I m always on the lookout for the best litter box, best litter, best food just best everything for my kitties but I have been reading that this litter box is not for every cat especially territorial ones because the litter scent gets on the walls of the litter box and super territorial cats don't like to smell their housemates scent on the wall and will ultimately refuse to use the litter box. I have not met a person who likes to clean the litter box and this one seems like a pretty good solution but please make sure that things like this are what's best for your cat and not just for your convenience.
