As someone who has had curly hair their entire life, I can tell you a thing or two about that old adage "we all want what we don't have." I can't tell you how many times my hair reduced me to a puddle of tears while I was growing up and if I had a dollar for every time I wished for straight hair... I could probably afford to have my hair permanently straightened somehow.
Eventually, I think all girls come to accept the fact that they have curly hair. And THEN, we learn to embrace them...and fall totally in love with our curls!
Having curly hair is a tricky business. Heat and humidity are generally your enemies, two things that are a daily occurance in Florida. But you also have to be wary of hair dryers, brushes, hair products that are too heavy or too light, hair products that claim they're for curly hair but what they really mean is "for girls who curl their hair." Don't even get me started on finding a good haircut; I've been seeing the same hair stylist for 13 years because she has the same hair as I do and knows how to make me look absolutely fabulous.
Somewhere along the way we find the products and technique that work for us allowing us to embrace the bouncy curl and fall in love with our hair. It's only then that we start to really embrace the curl and realize that our hair is another part of who we are. We no longer cringe when someone says "I wish I had your hair!" and instead enthusiastically reply "Thanks, I love it too!"
I watched as Angeline went through the same love-hate relationship with her hair, until through a period of trial and error, we found products that made her fall in love with her curls too. Like mother, like daughter!
These days I enjoy playing with and showing off my curly hair, and so does Angeline!
Which is why I may have been just a little bit excited to see Dove Hair introducing the brand new Dove Love Your Curls Emojis – the first emoji keyboard designed to represent curly girls everywhere. There are different types of curls, different hairstyles, different ethnicities represented - there is a curly-haired emoji for everyone! There's even a curly-haired emoji for a girl twirling a lock of hair around her finger, which is TOTALLY ME.
Angeline and I had some fun going through the different curly-haired emojis and found that there are GIFs too!!
I can't even deal with how cute this is! I have to admit, I use emojis pretty often, and it turns out that I'm not alone. 74% of people use emojis every day and it's awesome that now I have an emoji that represents me. Plus, as all curly hair women will tell you, one size does not fit all curls, so I love that Dove Hair even included different types of curls!
You can download the Dove Love Your Curls Emojis in the App Store and Google Play Store to show you #LoveYourCurls! It's a pretty simple process, you just download the app, then add the keyboard to your phone using your Settings > Keyboards > Add a Keyboard > and make sure to "allow access. The app itself will show you exactly what to do.
Plus, Dove Hair will also be partnering with Twitter so each time we share a #LoveYourCurls moment, a custom Dove Curly Emoji will appear in the tweet! I think this is sooo cute!
