Pets have their own personalities, and just like us, their own insecurities. Some pets are afraid of bad weather, whereas some are afraid of other animals. Travel anxiety is rampant in pets, as it forces them into a situation they can’t easily get out of.

There’s no options but for us to make them suffer through it, or try to alleviate their anxiety somehow. This can be a difficult task, however; one which doesn’t seem to have an easy solution.

Can CBD Oil Help with Pet Anxiety While Traveling?

    Causes of Pet Anxiety

Just like us, our pets can be anxious for many reasons, and some pets are more susceptible to it than others. The main causes for pet anxiety are situational.

You’ve probably found that your pet needs extra attention from you during thunderstorms, or when fireworks are being set off outside. Or, your dog will bark excessively when the mailman comes, or if a stranger knocks on your door.

However, travel is a major source of anxiety for animals of all species. It’s a stressful, scary process for a lot of people, but for dogs and other animals, it brings a whole new set of terrifying experiences.

Your pet will show a lot of signs that they are anxious, and you shouldn’t ignore them. The main thing you’ll notice is that your pet is urinating on the floor, even though it is house trained. You’ll also notice excessive panting and whimpering in dogs.

In some cases, your pet may show aggression despite being placid otherwise. Either way, once you spot these signs, you should do your best to treat your pet’s anxiety just like you would treat your own.

    CBD Oil for Anxiety

CBD oil is extremely popular these days, as it’s therapeutic uses are many, and the side effects are almost non-existent. Where you might have once taken pharmaceutical medications that have many, many side effects, you can now use CBD to achieve the same positive effects whilst reducing the negative ones.

CBD oil has been used to treat conditions like anxiety, insomnia and pain, and the calming effects of CBD oil can be felt without the high that THC, the other compound found in cannabis, produces, or HHC. Most people report the effects of HHC as providing a gradual increase in mood, but not a "high". It stimulates an increase in activity more so than other THC products typically do. While it can cause cognition and your headspace to change, it doesn't completely overtake your ability to remain in control.

You can learn more about Cannabis and CBD through leafnation.com if you are unfamiliar with the many benefits of CBD use.

Using CBD to calm your pet when you travel will have many benefits, not just for your pet, but also for you and the other people you’re travelling with. Not only are you reducing the negative feelings that you pet is experiencing, but you’re doing it naturally.

CBD oil can also stimulate the immune system’s function as well, which helps with other issues your pet might be experiencing like arthritis and other joint issues, as well as neuropathic and neurological disorders.

If your pet is also experiencing pain, CBD will help with that too. Since there are many options available, it is important to choose the best cbd oil for anxiety.

    CBD is Natural

We often take better care of our pets than we do ourselves. So when it comes to medicating our pets, we would rather choose something natural.

CBD oil is perfect for pets, because it works it’s effect on our naturally occurring endocannabinoid system, meaning the medicinal action doesn’t rely on chemicals. Our endocannabinoid system is a complex system which results in the stimulation of the release of serotonin, which is your body’s natural mood stabilizer.

By ingesting CBD, you are helping this process occur more efficiently, enhancing your own inner ability to feel calm and less anxious.

What to Look for in a CBD Oil

CBD oil is extremely popular and because of that, there are now many options out there available for you to purchase. In fact, it’s hard to know how to distinguish between the low quality offerings, and the high quality CBD oil for sale that you really want.

So where are you supposed to start? There are a number of questions that you can ask of each CBD oil you come across that will help you determine which one is right for your pet.

For a start, you should question whether an oil is organic or not. If a CBD is of high quality, it will have been made from hemp that is organically grown, and it will contain no toxins.

In fact, most good quality CBD oil will not contain any additives, though a few of the higher concentration CBD oils might contain a substance like MCT that will help keep the CBD emulsified.

This shouldn’t put you off, however you may want to stay away from any CBD oil that has a long, chemical sounding ingredient list. Your pet will thank you.

Secondly, you should choose a CBD oil that is processed in a way that preserves the quality of the oil. There are no regulations on the way CBD oil is extracted, so some manufacturers will use a cheap method to extract the CBD, which is then reflected in the final product.

For instance, extraction methods using petroleum based products and hexanes can result in toxins. It’s best for you and your pet to look for an oil that is extracted using the carbon dioxide method in order to get the best results.

Thirdly, ensure you look for a CBD oil that contains THC. THC is the psychoactive component of cannabis that is responsible for the high felt when smoking marijuana. If the CBD oil you choose contains THC, you might find that you’re going to inadvertently boost your pets anxiety, and if you end up on an airplane or on a long drive with your over-anxious pet, you’re all going to have a bad time.

In most countries, there’s a hard limit on THC content (usually less than 0.2%) in CBD oils before the oils become illegal, so ensure that you pick an oil for your pet that is below this limit.

Keeping your pet calm while you travel might have once seemed like an extremely difficult task. However, the benefits of CBD oil for your pets are numerous, and can alleviate any travel-related fear that they may have. Introducing CBD oil to your pets can benefit them in many ways, and will reduce the negative feelings your pet will have when travelling.
