This is a product-provided, sponsored conversation that contains affiliate links. I received two canisters of Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews for my own personal use.  All opinions, text and experiences are my own.

Being a mom has been the most rewarding job I've ever had, but parenthood certainly isn't easy. We have so much to worry about as parents; we are responsible for everything from the TV they watch, fostering good self esteem, developing a sense of compassion, being successful in school, and of course, their nutrition and health. I am always talking to Angeline about the importance of what she eats, proper nutrition and exercise; while she is just a teenager, she is forming habits now that will carry with her for the rest of her life.

Did you know that 68% percent of adult women are calcium deficient? As bad as that is, according to a 2010 study published in The Journal of Nutrition, the numbers are far worse for teenage girls - about 86% of teenage girls have a calcium-deficient diet. I think that these numbers are probably pretty accurate for Angeline and myself, as we don't eat a lot of dairy due to Angeline's sensitivity to lactose and my general low-fat, low-carb way of eating. That calcium deficiency might not seem like a big deal, but it is, especially since the women in my family have a history of osteoporosis. 95% of bone building happens before teenage girls reach 20 years old, so with Angeline being 16, it is the prime time to work on getting more calcium into her body to ensure that she builds strong bones.

I love spending time with my daughter. Angeline is a spunky kid with a lot of energy, and we always have fun together, whether we are just goofing around in the house taking selfies, or out traveling together. It is so important to me that she is not only healthy now, but that I help her develop the habits that will keep her healthy when she sets out on her own in a few years.

The recommended daily amount of calcium for girls ages 9-18 years is 1300 milligrams. {You can find out more about the daily recommended allowance on the teens and calcium section on the Viactiv website.} That might seem like an impossible amount to work into your daily diet, especially if your teenager daughter has a sensitivity to lactose. While Angeline can - and does - consume dairy in the form of milk, cheese, butter, yogurt and ice cream, they are in always in small amounts so that they don't upset her stomach. There is no way that she is currently getting 1300 milligrams of calcium, so adding two VIACTIV® Calcium Soft Chews into her daily routine solves that problem!

Just two VIACTIV® Calcium Soft Chews a day provides teenage girls with almost 80% of their daily recommended calcium, at 500 milligrams each. VIACTIV® Calcium Soft Chews also have vitamins D and K, which help supplement her diet with those essential nutrients as well! It's no wonder that VIACTIV® Calcium Soft Chews are the #1 doctor recommended calcium supplement chew, right?

We received a canister of VIACTIV® Calcium Soft Chews in both caramel and chocolate, and have been eating them daily for a few weeks now. Each VIACTIV® Calcium Soft Chew is individually wrapped within the canister, so they are really easy to just grab and throw into your purse or backpack (in Angeline's case) and take with you.

We have found that they definitely have an awesome chocolate and caramel flavor, so Angeline actually enjoys eating them - that makes my life easier, because there aren't any "JUST EAT THEM!!" arguments! Because, let's face it...Angeline is 16. We have enough to argue about! I'd rather spend the last few years she's at home before college having fun and bonding, not arguing about getting enough calcium.
