I came across a thread of posts this morning that broke my heart.
This young woman on Tumblr, Sammy, posted a photo of herself, and it began spreading like wildfire across the photo-sharing site. Why? Because many found her "body modifications" beautiful, intriguing, strange, etc.
But also because Spacely Sprocket said this:
"um everything about this b!tch is gross.. she looks like she has a beard and was branded like a f*cking cow..wtf"
But...I don't find this woman gross. I wouldn't compare her to a cow. I certainly wouldn't say such horrible things about her on Tumblr, which sends the original person (in this case, Sammy) an email telling them what people have commented when they repost the photo.
Of course the backlash against Spacely Sprocket was quick and severe, with many personal and online friends jumping to Sammy's defense, giving words of support and encouragement, as well as pretty much just ripping Spacely Sprocket a new one.
It's 2011, people. There is no more Barbie Doll standard of beauty.

It's not my preferred look/style, but debasing someone in that manner is sickening.

I just couldn't believe someone would say something like that - talk about rude!
