It rushes towards me in waves, that ocean of melancholy before me… tempting, inviting, menacing, threatening. At times I am tempted to allow myself to be taken in. Overwhelmed; swallowed in the sea of sorrow it offers. Strange comfort… it promises a feeling of belonging, a sense of understanding. This sadness knows me, doesn’t judge me, sees me for who I…
A Perfect Muffin Recipe – Pumpkin Cheesecake Muffins
Last year, I purchased a box of Pillsbury Pumpkin Quick Bread mix in the beginning of November. I had every intention of baking the quick bread for my coworkers during the hectic few days leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday. That never happened! However, a few months later I came across the boxed mix in…
The Big C – & I'm not talking about the TV series…
My maternal grandmother died in a horrific car accident in July. Yesterday my paternal grandmother was admitted into the hospital due to rectal bleeding. She was previously scheduled for heart surgery to remove two aneurysms and will most likely miss that surgery due to her current Dr not wanting to release her – he’s running a…
10 Things to Say to 10 Different People
My lovely friend Nicole over at Write Spell posted a “Get it Off Your Chest” post a bit ago entitled “10 different things you want to say to 10 different people”…and I love the idea so much that I am doing my own list right here. This is something you would probably do in a…
Catching Up
Its been a busy week or two…This is some of the insanity that has kept me busy and away from the blog lately: My uncle visiting from out of town Holding a family memorial gathering to grieve with my uncle and aunt Spreading my grandmother’s ashes at sea Helping to clean out my grandmother’s house…
The Ties That Bind
Dictionary.com defines the word “family” as “a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not”…in my opinion, that definition is a far cry from what a family really is. It simply does not do the word justice. The bond between family members automatically supersedes marriage, friendships, work relations…it is something created by blood, created by history, created by something bigger, stronger,…
The End of Summer, Beginning of Another Life
It has been a long, busy, insane summer. Between my daughter spending 6 of the 9 weeks away from home, it passed pretty quickly for me. There were concerts, summer camp, family trips, a death in the family, a memorial service, a road trip to North Carolina, a family reunion, home repairs, the purchase of…
Switchfoot & Goo Goo Dolls Concert
Sometimes live shows suck. Sometimes they blow you away. Sometimes you walk away thinking, “that was okay.” Saturday night, my husband and I went to see Switchfoot and the Goo Goo Dolls perform in a very small venue in Downtown Miami. I am not a huge fan of either band, by my husband loves the…
Adolescence
I have spent an eternity with you it seems Cradling you in my arms smelling your hair stroking your cheek Days pass by Sometimes I wonder how it is possible watching you grow so quickly before my eyes I see your father in your smile I see your grandmother when you laugh I see myself…
Planning our wedding 10 years later
I didn’t go to homecoming. I didn’t go to prom. They seemed silly. I got married in the courthouse, with a small ceremony with my father’s side of the family in North Carolina at my cousin’s church. I have about 15 photos from my wedding day. Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of my marriage….
