An old family recipe: Nut Tassies

I know you guys are going to get tired of seeing these recipes for baked goods, what with all of our new year resolutions to lose weight and get in better shape and all…

But my mom recently made Nut Tassies, and I just had to share the recipe here! It’s not very often that we have a family recipe get passed around, so my mom jumped at the chance when my great aunt gave her the recipe for the nut tassies that she makes at our holiday gatherings – and my great grandmother made before her.

 Ingredients for base

  • 1/2 cup of nuts
  • 1/2 LB. butter cold
  • 2- 3 oz pkgs cream cheese
  • 2- cup sifted flour
Ingredients for filling
  • 1 & 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions

In large shallow dish combine butter, cream cheese, and sifted flour

Work ingredients together with hands or cut in like pie dough. Make 48 balls.

Mold into small tins and sprinkle nuts into bottom of each crust.

To make the filling, combine the brown sugar, eggs, butter and vanilla

Fill cups halfway with the mixture

Sprinkle more nuts on top.

Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.

Take out of pans immediately while hot.

I hope that your family enjoys these nut tassies as much as mine does!

Those look really tasty! I’m going to have to save this recipe for the next time mom brings me walnuts (they have a huge tree.) Everything is better with fresh walnuts. 🙂
