For those who don't live here, summer in Miami sounds like a dream come true. But let's face it: for those of us who live here, it means hot and humid. No one wants to spend their summer looking like a wilted flower, now is the time that we get to be excited about our wardrobes and showing off those bikini bodies we've been working so hard for. Check out these 9 Must Have Pieces To Rock Your Summer Wardrobe and ensure that you're prepared for any day, any function, any activity -because no matter what you are doing this summer (or anytime, for that matter), you want to look great! Mine is made up of lots of sundresses, comfortable and breathable shoes, and of course…bathing suits!
9 Must Have Pieces To Rock Your Summer Wardrobe
Your Basic Shorts and Tee
While I mostly wear sundresses, you can’t exactly go horseback riding and zip lining in a dress, can you? All my shorts must pass certain criteria: they must be comfortable, lightweight and flattering so that I feel confident when I wear them. Your basic khaki shorts and fitted tee are perfect for outdoor activities, a stroll in the park, fishing, etc.
People tend to either love or hate a romper. Admittedly, I wasn't too sure about them at first but I finally tried them two summers ago and now I always grab the cute ones when I see them in stores! A romper is a great way to get dressed quickly and look put together. They’re also very lightweight so you won’t be too hot, and some even have pockets! Girls, we KNOW we love anything with surprise pockets. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize that wearing a romper is really similar to wearing a dress. Just add shoes and accessories and you’re all set for your day, whether it’s hanging out at a poolside bar, a casual lunch with friends or visiting the farmer’s market on Sunday afternoon.
Dressy Sandals
It can be tempting to spend every day in flip flops, but everyone needs a really cute and comfortable pair of trendy sandals during the summer! I like a pair of simple but fashionable sandals that I can wear from day to night…looking adorable in Instagram #WhereIStand photos is a bonus! Toe rings are optional but highly encouraged.
The Summer Sundress
I practically live in sundresses year round, but during the summer months, I wear them nonstop! A pretty sundress not only keeps you nice and cool when the temperatures rise, but they come in so many different shapes, colors and designs that you are sure to find a few killer looks with this fashion staple!
Comfy Shoes
With a constant travel itinerary and so much to do in my own back yard I am on my feet A LOT during the summer. Investing in a really comfortable, breathable pair of shoes that you can wear anywhere is so important. I love TOMS because they come in so many different styles, are the most comfy shoes I've ever worn, and I can throw them in the washer and dryer to keep them fresh after a long trip - like my recent Mediterranean cruise, where I wore them everywhere from around the Carnival VISTA to climbing to the top of the Acropolis in Athens.
A Bathing Suit Cover Up
The only thing more important than a comfortable, flattering bathing suit this summer is what you wear over it! My favorite cover ups are lightweight and airy, and of course...cute! I've been wearing this simple cover up that I bought for about $15 at Target for YEARS.
A Day to Night Dress
As much as I love sundresses, they’re not appropriate for everything. Every chick needs at least one great dress that she can wear from day to night. Wear comfortable shoes during the day, then change into a pair of heels and add some jewelry in the evening and save time – and valuable packing space in your luggage – with one dress that does it all!
A Bathing Suit that Flatters You
As much as we might like to try, there is no escaping wearing a bathing suit during the summer. Whether it’s on a cruise, taking the kids to the pool, heading to the beach with friends and family: you absolutely MUST HAVE a flattering bathing suit! My suggestion is to skip the mass market retailers and head to a swim shop or department store and invest in a high quality bathing suit. I personally prefer Victoria's Secret because you can mix and match their tops and bottoms.
The right wardrobe will have you looking great and feeling great all summer long. But on exceptionally hot days not even the lightest of sundresses can save me. A Florida natives solution to this is a supply of ice cream in the freezer. Duh!
