Whether you’re a man or a woman, a parent or not, it’s so important to stay healthy. I’d like to place a little extra emphasis on the ladies today, because National Women’s Health Week is coming up and we need to make our health a priority! Travel is my biggest priority, aside from my family, of course, but I’ve had to focus on staying at home more recently to take care of some much-needed dental care. Health comes first!
Traveling isn’t that much fun when you’re not in the best of health, and I want to ensure that I am up for the challenge when it comes time for my next adventure with my daughter!
Whether you’re a career woman, a stay at home mom, or fall somewhere in the middle like I do, it’s so important to take care of yourself so that you can live life to the fullest! How are we to embark on adventures when we aren’t feeling 100%?
In honor of National Women’s Health Week, I’ve put together a list of 6 ways to stay healthy. One for each day, and some of these are as easy as just using the Colgate Total Regimen!
6 Ways for Women to Stay Healthy
There are lots of ways for anyone to stay healthy, but since National Women’s Health Week is coming, I want to share these 6 ways for women in particular to stay healthy. Most of these will work for everyone, but there are reasons that they’ve made it here.
Strength training is important for women especially because it promotes strong bones as well as strong muscles. Studies have shown that strength training strengthens bones and lessens our risk for osteoporosis. That’s important because osteoporosis is most common in women. So keep pounding the pavement, but remember to hit the weights as well!
Most women don’t think about heart disease, but it’s the number one killer of women in this country. In fact, it kills more women than all other diseases combined. So get that cardio started! Go for a jog around the block, walk on the elliptical – whatever you can do to work a little cardio into your day.
This goes hand in hand with cardio and strength training.
You have to eat well to be well. Limit your sugar, saturated fat, salt, and bad cholesterol intake and be sure to get plenty of lean protein, complex carbs, healthy fats, and omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. It will help you feel better and stay healthy.
It’s not all about eating right and physical activity if we want to stay healthy. We have to take care of the girls, as well. Always remember to do regular self exams as well as going in for your mammogram!
Stress is a killer – literally. Studies have shown that stress actually shaves years off of our lives. That’s true for everyone, but its especially true in women. We worry about everything from our jobs to our kids to our husbands to what we’re going to wear for the day. Just RELAX.
Take a few moments each day to unwind and mellow out, and don’t forget to use all of your vacation days – for a real vacation, not to catch up on errands or clean the house.
Good Oral Health
This is one way to stay healthy that no one ever really thinks about. Did you know that an unhealthy mouth can lead to an unhealthy heart, kidney, and liver? It’s true! If you have dental problems, bacteria from you mouth can enter the bloodstream through your gums and wreak havoc inside you! Believe me, I know this from experience. I had a small fracture in one of my teeth due to grinding…and it turned into a horrible infection IN MY FACE. It was awful! Two rounds of antibiotics and a root canal later, I am finally back to usual self and now I’m super serious about my oral hygiene.
The Colgate Total® regimen includes using the Colgate Advanced Whitening Toothpaste, Colgate Total’s New Gum Health Mouthwash and 360 Total Advanced Floss-Tip Bristles Toothbrush – it’s everything you need for a clean mouth!
Remember to brush for a full two minutes, floss thoroughly, and use Gum Health Mouthwash. I suffer from receding gums and gum disease, so I really have to concentrate on this!
Colgate Total® regimen with Colgate Total’s New Gum Health Mouthwash can provide advanced gum protection for 45% stronger, healthier gums.
Ladies, we women keep the world running. Whether we’re at work or at home, we’re helping to run things, and we ALL know where everyone would be without us. So follow these 6 steps to get and stay healthy, and make sure you’re around for the long haul!
