5 Tips for Avoiding Dry Skin in Winter

I just came back from a trip to Detroit, Michigan for the North American International Auto Show. Boy was it cold up there! Even though I was only there for two days, my skin became so dry and my lips were so chapped - I don' t think I was even half as prepared for the cold as I thought I was. I should have thought of these 5 Tips for Avoiding Dry Skin before I went to Detroit, but hindsight is 20/20, as they say!

I thought that a down jacket and my lip balm would cover me...not so much.

    freezing in detroit

When I was flying back to Miami, I had to laugh because it was 19 degrees when I was leaving...and it was snowing. This Miami girl really doesn't know how to handle that kind of weather, and I would be a dried up, frozen mess if I had to live somewhere with a real winter!

Willa Skin Care, a new skincare line available at Target, just shared a few tips for dealing with winter weather and I thought I'd share them with you too!

5 Tips for Avoiding Dry Skin in Winter

Keep showers short and not too hot. Exposing your skin to water for long periods of time strips skin and dries it out even more, and when you throw hot water into the mix, it becomes even more drying.

Apply moisturizer within three minutes of stepping out of the shower. It might seem counterproductive to use a moisturizer on your face - who wants an oily face? - but as long as you are using a light, clear moisturizer that doesn't clog pores, it is totally worth it!

Don't forget your sunscreen! You still have to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun during the winter months. Keep in mind that even when the sky is overcast, those UV rays are still shining through.

Healthy diet is key! Make sure you are eating enough protein, fat and vegetables and dial back on the processed foods. Your skin will look better for it. Of course, don't forget to drink lots of water! This tip works year round; hydrated skin is gorgeous skin!

Keep your lips hydrated! Use a daily lip balm to prevent getting chapped lips like I did in Detroit! willa has a line of smile butter balms available online or at your local Target store, and they are formulated with shea butter for major conditioning, plus vitamin E to keep your lips luscious and hydrated for hours.

These 5 Tips for Avoiding Dry Skin in winter weather aren't difficult to put into practice, right?

I have dry skin in the best of circumstances, but the winter is horrid on my skin. It's been bitterly cold here the last few days, and I'm so ready for Spring! BTW, you look so pretty!

I always have dry skin, but especially in the winter. Keeping my showers short AND not too hot is a huge challenge in itself. I need my water steaming!
