With warmer weather and the chance to enjoy some time off during the summer holidays just around the corner many people’s thoughts now turn to potential holiday destinations. Depending on your situation, - whether you have a family of young or older children and your interests the choices may vary. But for many of us nothing beats a dose of warm weather, pristine beaches to relax on, and countless attractions to keep us occupied and entertained.
All this makes one unique place one of the best choices for just that sort of trip away: Lanzarote, and here are five reasons why you should consider the Canary Island as your next holiday destination:
1. Year Round Warm Weather
Situated near the West Coast of Africa, Lanzarote is one of the beautiful Canary Islands dotted around there and still administered by Spain. The Island is popular for its breathtaking volcanic landscapes, beaches, and warm weather all year round. The island’s agreeable weather is one good reason to visit for a relaxing time away but Lanzarote also has so much more to offer besides.
2. Lanzarote’s Selection of Beaches
If you’re a fan of relaxing by the sea or even occasionally dippingyour toes into the water then there are few places that match Lanzarote for the quality and selection of its beaches. Being a popular holiday destination means that there are always good deals available from travel specialists should you decide to book one there. The island has up to a hundred different beaches that feature untainted stretches of golden sand that many describe as among the best in the Canaries. Highlights include Famara bay, the labyrinth of coves at Papagayo, and Play Blanca in the South.
3. Jameos Del Agua
Lanzarote is much more than just sunshine and golden sandy beaches however as evidenced by the numerous attractions and things to do on the island. A prime example is Jameos Del Agua, a network of lava tubes measuring 6km long that feature underground lagoons and tropical gardens. A top Lanzarote attraction, Jameos Del Agua is home to an opulent and pristine swimming pool whose use is reserved only for the King of Spain while bars, restaurants, and a concert hall formed from volcanic rock are available to visitors.
4. Museums in Lanzarote
For those that like to take in a bit of culture and learn about the history of places they visit, Lanzarote actually has a surprising number of museums to see and explore. From the Museum of Contemporary Art in Arrecife to the incredible Oasis at Lag Omar Museum, there is a great mixture of quirky and serious venues from which to gain an insight into life on the Island.
5. Submarine Safari
Now Submarine Safari’s might be a thing at other holiday destinations but the ones in Lanzarote are the first I’ve heard of personally. If you’ve always wondered what it’s like below the ocean surface but would rather not get wet, a submarine safari is just the ticket. Available from Puerto Calero, submarine safari trips will take you to depths of 30 metres below the surface for a unique and close up look at marine life in its natural habitat.
Lanzarote of course has much more to offer than the five examples listed above but they are a good representation of what’s available on the island. With a consistent backdrop of good weather that makes Lanzarote a great option for a holiday away the next time you’re stuck for ideas, everything else is just a bonus!
