I saw Disney Pixar's The Good Dinosaur not once but TWICE in LA last week, and while one would think that seeing the same movie twice within a three-day period would be overkill - it totally wasn't! I'm a huge fan of Disney Pixar and the latest animated movie hitting theaters on November 26th did NOT disappoint - it's an awesome movie! So awesome that you may want to see it twice too! Why? Well, here are 5 Reasons to Go See Disney Pixar's The Good Dinosaur...in no particular order!
SPOILER ALERT! Don't read this if you don't want to know what happens in the movie!
5 Reasons to Go See Disney Pixar's The Good Dinosaur
The Good Dinosaur teaches us that you can't always judge a book by its cover. Over the course of the movie, The Good Dinosaur shows us in very simple terms that while someone may seem rough and "bad," sometimes outside appearances can be deceiving and there lies within a sweet, kind soul. When Arlo meets the critter responsible for eating his family's food, Spot, he thinks that he is evil...but he's really not. The story that unfolds is one of friendship, loyalty, perseverance and well, love.
Peter Sohn SHINES in his directorial debut! While we all know Peter Sohn as a storyboarder for Disney Pixar, he really shines as the director in The Good Dinosaur. You can read all about his experience directing his first film in this interview. He voices the Collector in the movie as well - he always plays a voice or two in the films he works on - and he's pretty hilarious. The scene with the Collector is one of my favorites from the film.
The Good Dinosaur teaches that ANYONE can be brave, even when they're scared. In The Good Dinosaur, Arlo is a little bit of a scaredy cat. Well, he's a big scaredy cat - almost to the point of being a complete coward. While he's teased and teased, he simply can't get over his fear of everything...until something earth-shattering occurs and he's forced to "man up," so to speak, and once he pushes himself to move forward and fight through his fear, he keeps doing it throughout the movie, pushing himself farther and farther, no matter how scared he is. There's a saying that being brave doesn't mean that you're not afraid, it means doing something even when you're afraid, and that is what happens with Arlo in The Good Dinosaur. I think it's a great lesson for kids - and a great reminder for adults too!
The animation in The Good Dinosaur is AMAZING. I swear, each and every Disney Pixar movie I see, it seems that technology has grown leaps and bounds. There was one point in the movie where Arlo is laying in a riverbed and I actually thought for a moment that the movie had switched to one of those where a cartoon transitions into "real life." The clarity was that great!
The Good Dinosaur teaches us that family is the most important thing there is. Throughout the movie, there is a common theme: FAMILY. It's all about family, life revolves around the family unit and you do anything and everything you can to preserve it. One thing I really enjoyed about the movie was the concept that friends can become family, as Arlo and Spot seemed to be doing throughout the movie. They support each other, encourage each other and they do ANYTHING it takes to help each other - in today's increasingly complex society, sometimes our friends ARE our family, and I love that The Good Dinosaur embraced that message!
I have to warn you, as much as I loved this movie, there was a pretty sad part in it, and you'll want to bring your tissues!
