disclosureAfter months of heavy traveling, I settled back in at home and life slowly began returning to normal. I realized on Labor Day weekend that Chris and I hadn't been on a date in months! After Angeline went to hang out with her boyfriend, we headed down to Biscayne National Park to have lunch at one of my favorite local restaurants, Blackpoint Marina Grill. It's literally just a small restaurant at the marina, but the food is always delicious, the beers are cold and the views can't be beat!

Now, Chris and I have been married for a long time - 13 years, to be precise - and like many married couples, we have fallen into a rut when it comes to keeping the romance alive. We rarely go out to eat anymore, partly because of laziness, partly because of wanting to save money, and partly because going to the same places over and over again is really boring!

Going on dates with your significant other is a vital component to maintaining a tight bond, and I thought I would share some of my tips for having a great lunch date (or any date, really) with your partner!

It's not rocket science, it just takes a little imagination and creativity!

3 Tips for an Awesome Lunch Date

Put Some Effort Into Your Appearance!

You don't have to dress to the nines like you would if you went to a fancy restaurant for dinner, but that doesn't mean that you have to go out in shorts and flip flops. Put a little make up on, do your hair, throw on something nice and splash on the perfume. The same goes with you guys that are reading this - shave, wear your "nice" jeans, you know what I mean! While this is a casual lunch, it's still a date and putting a little effort into the way you look tells your partner that you care.

I wore my new Megan in Burgundy Dots by Karina Dresses for our lunch date with some simple but cute sandals. I love Karina Dresses because they don't need ironing and I can just throw one on and run out the door - so Chris doesn't have to sit around waiting for me to get ready. They are the ultimate wardrobe staple for low maintenance gals!

    Have Lunch With a View

Instead of sitting inside a dark and crowded restaurant, choose a location that offers something special - like a view! We don't live very far from a marina, and the restaurant there is casual but has awesome food and a great view of the marina and mangroves. It's not uncommon to see fish swim past our table while we are eating lunch!

    blackpoint

Speaking of food - why not try something different while you are out to lunch with your sweetie?

Instead of getting the same old thing you always get when you go out to eat, try something new! After being together for so long, it's time that Chris and I shake things up and experience some new things together, even if it's just the mahi mahi tacos with an interesting cilantro lime sour cream.

Plus, when you try new dishes, new beers, etc, it gives you something different to discuss over your meal...you know, aside from work, the kids, chores you have to do when you get home, etc.

    Plan an Activity

That's right, go outside! Or go inside, if that's what floats your boat. Skip the movie, where absolutely no talking goes on, and do something together that allows you to chat while you do something fun!

We are fortunate in that we live in an area of Miami where the ocean isn't very far. While we are quite a bit aways from the beach, we live only 3 miles away from the ocean, and can visit parks right on the water's edge. After lunch at the marina, we parked at the entrance to the park (this area is in Biscayne National Park and is open to the public) and took a long walk along the jetty.

    Biscayne

This is a public park and was full of people on this sunny Sunday afternoon!

We passed bike riders, families splashing in the rocks (I wouldn't suggest doing that, as there are crocodiles there - I think those people are nuts), and tons of people fishing.

It was hot as the dickens and we were both drenched in sweat by the time we reached the end of the jetty, but it was nice to get outside together and take a walk, which is something that we very rarely do together. Okay, that's not entirely accurate. It's something that we NEVER do together.

That's a cute dress! I'm finding that since we dropped our daughter off at college my husband and I are spending more time 'together' (not just in the same room watching TV or working on our computers, but intentional time 🙂 ). I think it's because we're no longer focused on her and what she needs.

Such a great post that I bet a lot of us should take heed to. My husband and I never take time out to be together. This is a reminder how much I miss spending time with him! I love that print on you! The color is stunning.

What a great post and reminder to us married couples to take time out for each other! You look beautiful and I so wish I could review Katrina dresses but didn't realize you had to be an affiliate... I can't do affiliate sells in my state. 🙁

Those are good tips. It is very hard to date your spouse after being married for a long time.

That is a lovely dress. I love, love, love low maintenance clothes. I refuse to iron.

I love the sound of these dresses! My husband and I try to go out on dates (we don't really like to as that leaves all our kids home alone) but it doesn't often work out that way so we like to watch our tv shows or a movie together when the munchkins are in bed.

I totally agree that putting just a little bit of extra effort into your appearance can make a big difference in differentiating "date" time from regular time.
