While at the movies Sunday afternoon, I saw the poster for John Carter, the new action-adventure movie by Walt Disney Pictures that is hitting theaters on March 9, 2012.

Walt Disney Pictures John Carter Movie Trailer

Now, I haven’t heard anything about this movie yet, but I knew it was being released next year. This was the first glimpse I’ve seen and I immediately thought “sci-fi” – in case you didn’t know, I am all about the sci-fi!

You can learn all about the movie on JohnCarterArrives.com, but here is a bit of info:

“John Carter” is based on the classic novel, A Princess of Mars, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Sounds pretty good, right? I’m so excited for it to come to theaters in March!

I’m especially excited to see the cast – I haven’t seen Willem Dafoe in a movie in a while and I am ecstatic that he is a part of this cast, along with Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Bryan Cranston, Polly Walker, Daryl Sabara, and Thomas Haden Church.

You can see the trailer for John Carter below – I hope it gets you as excited to see the movie as I get each time I watch it!

Yeah, I’m gonna have to see this movie. I read this book, but the movie just looks so awesome. I had no clue it was being made into a movie. I, too, am a sci-fi lover. I cut my teeth on R is for Rocket and Something Wicked This Way Comes, as well as The Lord of the Rings, and everything Steven King too…which I know is horror and not necessarily sci-fi. Thank you so much for making me aware of this!
