Every year, I go a little crazy decorating our home for the Christmas holiday season. I can’t help it – it just doesn’t feel like Christmas until the tree is trimmed and I have holly, snowmen and garlands covering every square inch of the house!

Because we live in Miami, there is no telltale change in weather to signal the change of seasons – and a white Christmas? Well, we can forget about that. Our family has always had a tradition of bringing out the tree and holiday decor the day after Thanksgiving, gathering together to decorate the tree with our family ornaments (mostly handmade), and baking holiday goodies together.

It usually takes about a full day to decorate the tree and the house, but of course I am always adding more decor as the month of December progresses – each time I find something cute while I am out shopping, I come home and find a special place for it! My daughter and husband love decorating with me, and I often invite my niece and cousin over to help. In our family, decorating for the holidays truly is a family affair!

We have always used a fake, plastic tree at Christmastime, because it’s just so easy – but I’ve always wanted a real tree. I want the smell of Christmas emanating from my family room along with the soft glow of the Christmas tree lights.

So this year, we decided to do something different. We are going to have a live Christmas tree!!

On Black Friday, I checked out the live Christmas tree selection on Sears.com to see if there were any great deals to be had.

Of course there were fantastic deals, but I was encouraged to wait until Cyber Monday for the unbeatable online sales – and I wasn’t disappointed. Whereas the tree I wanted was $79.99 on Black Friday, it went down to $71.99 on Cyber Monday!

You can read all about my online shopping experience on Sears in this Google+ story that I created. It was so fun to shop online in Sear’s Real Cheer department for a live Christmas tree! Sears made it so convenient and easy – and they even offered free shipping!

In addition to purchasing a live Fraser Fir Christmas tree, I shopped in the Sears Platinum Shop, where I purchased two sets of 10 piece Christopher Radko ornaments and a cute little Country Living ornament – these new pieces are going to look beautiful on my new tree! I got what I considered to be a steal on the ornaments as well. Not only were they on sale, but I got an additional 30% off on my Sears purchases on Cyber Monday – so everything came out to $99.84, which included taxes (shipping was free)!

I placed my order on Monday and my ornaments have already arrived. Now I am just waiting on my Christmas tree…I can’t wait to smell it when it arrives!

So fun! I got bought a live tree last year and intend to so the same this weekend. Love your photos, so cheerful and festive! I can imagine that it would be a little strange having Christmas in a very sunny area – my mom moved to Australia when she was 14, and she said it was bizarre to have Christmas in the summertime, LOL!

Great pictures! I’ve always wanted a live tree, too. However, I’ve heard that they were too much hassle. So, I just stick to the small and fake trees. :)

I’ve done both real and fake and am torn, there are advantages to both. This year I am all about the simplicity though, so we are going fake.

I love the smell of a real tree but I always get scared of the house burning down by all the horror stories you hear of by people who knew people who knew people that it happened to. lol

Actually, I just realized this morning that I would have to put lights in this tree – our fake tree already had lights in it. I am terrified of putting lights in a real tree! I think I am going to skip the lights. LOL
