I did something this week that I usually avoid doing at all possible costs: I thought about getting older.

Why would do such a horrible thing? Well, because it’s time!

I’ll be turning 35 soon, which is the age my mother was when she began the early stages of menopause – perimenopause.

I know, it’s a scary thought – menopause at 35? But it happens, and it happens in my family…so I know that i need to be prepared for that Second Talk – the menopause talk.

I have had a few talks with my mom about menopause, but I know that everyone’s experience is different, so I went to the Walmart website to learn more about the Poise Fab 5 – 5 different products to help with the 5 major symptoms of menopause. You can listen to 5 different stories about menopause and you can actually get a $1.00 off coupon after listening to the stories! My printer is out of ink so I couldn’t print off my coupon. :(

There is also an All You magazine in Walmart stores with more information about menopause, and another $1.00 off coupon. I love that Poise and Walmart are making it so easy to save money when trying these new products!

You can read about my shopping trip to Walmart to buy Poise Fab 5 products in this Google+ story.

It was a little weird, walking into the family planning section and passing up contraceptives and sexual aids in favor of menopause items.

Poise has created a line of five products that cover some of the symptoms of menopause: most notably, hot flashes, daily freshness and intimacy. They are only available at Walmart and are reasonably priced between $2.97 and $5.97. You can find out more about the Poise Fab 5 products, along with the complete line of products at the Poise website (you can also print off coupons there).

So, what exactly can we ladies expect in our later years as we enter menopause and start going through “the change?”

From my mom’s stories, I’ve learned that I can expect very irregular menstrual cycles, my hair will begin thinning, my iron levels could decrease, and hello, hot flashes!

I did a bit of research on the symptoms of menopause and found that hot flashes are really some of the most common physical symptoms, but women also experience lack of libido and dryness as well. I’m not looking forward to that.

I’m still young!! I’m young, right? Right?!

Facts about Menopause

  • Average age to begin Menopause is 51
  • The menopause transition phase is called perimenopause – and can last up to 6 years

Common Symptoms of Menopause

  • Irregular menstrual periods
  • hot flashes
  • difficulty sleeping
  • vaginal dryness

So where do the Poise Fab 5 products fit in? Well, in case you didn’t know, September is Menopause Awareness month – and these new products being offered by Poise are here to make your menopause transition easier.

By creating the cooling roll-on gel and the towelettes, Poise has hot flashes covered. Hearing from my mom and other women who have gone through menopause, I know that the hot flashes are the worst part. Kudos to Poise for helping the ladies out! And of course there are the other more intimate issues – the dryness and freshness issues…honestly, mom and I don’t discuss those things so I guess I will have to find out for myself once I begin the “change.” Luckily, I already know of a few great products that will help – thanks Poise!

For now, my Poise Fab 5 products will remain in my nightstand drawer – though I may use those cooling towelettes now because it gets  so dang hot and muggy in Miami anyway!

You can learn more about Menopause Awareness month by following Poise on Twitter and liking the Poise Facebook page. Find lots of ways that other women celebrate being a woman and what Menopause means to them on the Poise Fab 5 Pinterest page!

With all of this talk about menopause during Menopause Awareness month, I have been thinking about the changes I will go through once it happens to me. I already know that I don’t want more children, but the fact that it will be physically impossible for me?

That’s kind of scary. My daughter will be grown up and on her own…it will just be my husband and I.

It will just be my husband and I…I think I like the sound of that.

Is it crazy I wish our family had a history of early menopause? My mom is 54 and just starting the early stages of it :/ It’s good to know you’re educated on the topic!

My hormones have been out of whack for years. I started having the night sweats that accompany this at age 25. I’m glad to see products that will help with this!
