My daughter is in her last year of middle school – she’s growing up so fast! While she loves her class schedule, she is not happy with her lunch time assignment this year. She starts school at 9 am, eats lunch at 11:40 am, and school ends at 4 pm.
Needless to say, she usually comes home ravenous! It is a constant battle to keep her from running straight to the chips and junk food when she comes home. She just wants to eat the easiest thing she can get her hands on. Now that we’ve made an effort to eat healthier and get into better shape as a family, I’ve stopped buying most junk food – which means all of the convenience foods are no longer in the cabinets!
I found a very mom and child friendly alternative to quick junk food at our local Publix – Kidfresh frozen meals. They’re healthy, so I don’t have to worry about what my daughter is eating, and they are really tasty, so she actually wants to eat them!
With six varieties under 400 calories, they provide key nutrients like protein, calcium and vitamins. They are also all low in sodium and trans fat free! My daughter really likes them because they take 3 minutes or less to heat up, they taste great and she doesn’t have to worry about eating junk food!
I couldn’t believe the nutrition content on the back of the boxes; they contained as much as half of a cup of veggies in each meal! They have done an excellent job of sneaking the vegetables in the frozen meals – my nieces and nephew didn’t even taste them when I had them over for lunch last weekend! They ate Wagon Wheels Mac + Cheese and Spaghetti Loops Bolognese – each contains up to a half cup of carrots, but by the way the kids ate them up, I knew that they couldn’t tell!
You can learn more about Kidfresh meals at their website, or check out their Twitter for up-to-date information! While I was only able to find 3 varieties at my local Publix in Miami, I did find on the Kidfresh website that there are Publix stores all over Florida and Georgia that carry the Kidfresh line! I am now stalking the other Publix stores in our neighborhood looking for the other foods! So far, my daughter’s favorite are the Muy Cheesy Quesadillas! You can search for Kidfresh meals in your city with their handy locator!
If you’d like to try these tasty, nutritious meals out for yourself, you’re in luck! I am giving away 2 full-value coupons to THREE lucky readers!
