I was getting ready to start writing this post and realized, most of my “unique” recipes that I share with you guys are things that I learned how to make from my mom! My mom is not a conventional cook by any means – she rarely follows recipes, yet her dishes are always awesome! When I was thinking of healthy tuna recipes to make with the new Ocean Naturals tuna fish, the first thing I thought of was my mom’s tuna dip!

My mom used to make this for us to snack on, for parties and sometimes even just for lunch! It’s quick and easy, and provided you use fat-free or low-fat cream cheese, it’s this healthy tuna recipe won’t affect your waist!

I love tuna fish, and I am always looking for ways to incorporate healthy tuna recipes into my diet. It’s one of the few fish that I don’t have to worry about being full of junk, so long as it’s wild-caught. It’s much less expensive to buy a can of wild-caught tuna fish than it is to buy wild-caught salmon or other fish, right? I’ve only been able to find Ocean Naturals tuna at Walmart, and it was $1.99 a can – but it was a 6 ounce can, which is bigger than the standard tuna brands.

What is Ocean Naturals Skipjack Tuna?

Ocean Naturals has a motto: Good, Good for You, Good for the Planet.

Not only is Ocean Naturals dolphin-safe (they carry the dolphin-safe guarantee), but their tuna is responsibly caught. That means that Ocean Naturals tuna comes from healthy sources that are harvested in ways that minimize the impact to tuna’s ecosystem. Ocean Naturals targets species populations that are healthy and abundant, using eco-friendly catching methods. Ocean Naturals actually concentrates on catching where fisheries are managed by a regulatory body that helps sustain the long-term productivity of the species!

The light-tuna variety, which is what I purchased for this healthy tuna recipe, is 100% Skipjack tuna. Ocean Naturals concentrates on Skipjack tuna because some other species are more endangered than others and this is a great way to make sure that they are not fishing the wrong species!

Did you know that you can learn where your specific tuna came from by visiting OceanNaturals.com and entering the code on the can? I think that’s so cool!

Fat-Free Tuna Dip Recipe with Ocean Naturals Skipjack Tuna

Ingredients

1 can Ocean Naturals Skipjack Tuna Fish
1 tub Fat-Free Cream Cheese
bunch of scallions (green onions)
Carrots and crackers for dipping

Directions

Drain water from Ocean Naturals tuna and pour the tuna into a medium bowl. Fold the cream cheese into the tuna using a fork, making sure that you break up the tuna so that it mixes evenly.

Slice scallions thin and fold them into the dip, leaving a few for garnish.

Yeah, it’s that easy!

You can also add in fat-free shredded cheddar cheese if you want to jazz it up a bit, but I am trying to keep my calories low before I head to Punta Cana next month for my friend’s beach wedding!

I love it as a dip, even though it’s fat-free cream cheese, it’s still just so decadent!

I think it might just be getting into more markets, because I’ve never seen it at Walmart before! I checked my Publix and Winn-Dixie grocery stores and they didn’t even have it!

I loveee this tuna! I tried it recently and now it’s all we’ll buy. Love that it’s wild since we try to eat all natural and organic. Definitely going to be trying this dip 🙂

I loved your recipe! I kind of knew what to expect because I’d seen your blog post before I was hired to do the campaign. I liked it more than I thought I would though! Being that it’s packed in water, it didn’t have that oily residue that some other brands have!

I am going to have to give this tuna a try. I excruciatingly fussy when it comes to tuna, but the $9 a jar stuff is I love is a budget killer.

I don’t eat tuna all that often but when I do I do not like buying the canned variety. I always opt for the pouches.

I like recipes like this that are so easy to whip up. My daughter isn’t much of a sandwich eater, so making a dip with lots of veggies on the side would make a great lunch for us. Nice work! #client
