Each year for Halloween, my husband and I go all out for Halloween. We decorate the house, we throw parties, we watch scary movies – and he stays home to pass out candy while I take my daughter trick or treating…well, at least I used to take my daughter trick or treating.

My daughter just turned 14. She doesn’t want to go trick or treating with mom anymore. You know, because it’s not cool to be seen with your mom. So last night, she and her friend dressed up as zombies and walked the 4 blocks in between our homes without me.

The upside to my daughter outgrowing our Halloween trick or treating tradition is that I was able to stay home and pass out candy to the trick or treaters this year – which I have never been able to do before! I made sure I was prepared! Last week, I headed down to Murphy USA to stock up on candy, both for our Halloween party and for trick or treaters.

You can read about my shopping trip here. While they did not have any fun sized candies, I was able to buy a bunch of full sized candy at great prices (3 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups for 99 cents!?) for our Halloween Horror Movie Night, and luckily for some very candy-hungry teenagers, also as back up once our fun sized candies ran out.

Our Halloween party was a blast and we scared ourselves silly watching The Last Exorcism and Insidious! The kids all had a great time dressing up, but I was so busy getting ready for the party that I never got around to putting my own costume on!

While I served all kinds of snacks and goodies at our Halloween party, the kids most favorite thing was the candy that I got from Murphy USA – because it was full size!

You can find out more about Murphy USA on their Facebook page and by following them on Twitter!

Your daughter is gorgeous. My eldest is 10 and he doesn’t like to trick or treat with me and the “babies” (2 and 7 months) so he goes with his friends and his friends’ parents instead. It’s embarrassing to have a baby sister, you know. :/ I had my first Pre-Halloween party this year and I look forward to doing it again. Looks like everyone had fun but next time, make sure YOU dress up too! :)

Aw, thanks! It’s funny how our kids go from wanting to be on our laps 24/7 as toddlers to not wanting to be seen with us when they get older!
