Last week, I took a trip to our local Walmart to buy a few last-minute Halloween party supplies and to pick up a few things for a quick and easy weekend dinner. I knew I’d be tired from all of our Halloween festivities and didn’t want to resort to eating fast food.
I knew I wanted to buy one of the new Gourmet Creations from Hillshire Farm, but I didn’t really know which one I wanted to try until I got to the store. WOW! I had heard that I might have trouble finding the new product, but my Walmart in Florida City had almost every variety that Hillshire Farm has available! You can read all about my shopping trip here.
I went back and forth trying to decide if I wanted to try the Chicken Apple and Gouda, or the Sweet Italian style. I ultimately decided on the Sweet Italian style sausage because it was the most familiar for my family – I cook Italian sausages all of the time. I figured that this flavor would be the easiest way to introduce the new line of Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations to my family. I decided to make a simple pasta dish – elbow noodles (for some reason, I’d filled this Ziti box full of elbow noodles!), traditional marinara sauce and garlic bread – in order to let the flavor of the Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations stand out.
Between a pirate party for the kids in the family, a Halloween Horror Movie Night and doing some minor home repairs while my husband is in town this weekend, I knew that I would be exhausted come Sunday night – and I was right! I love that I was still able to prepare a really nice meal for my family, despite lacking energy. Especially because I was able to cook this meal in under 20 minutes!
One of my favorite things about the new Gourmet Creations line is that inside the packing for each flavor, there are recipe recommendations that are perfect for each Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations flavor.
This was one of the easiest dishes I’ve made – it was literally four ingredients and four steps, but the outcome was wonderful and the entire family enjoyed it tremendously!
Step 1: Add 2/3 cup of water to pan and simmer sausage for 10 minutes – turning over halfway through.
Step 2: Prepare pasta according to directions on box. Drain and add 1 jar pasta sauce.
Step 3: Bake Great Value brand Texas Toast garlic bread at 425 for 7 minutes.
Step 4: Slice the sausage and serve over pasta with accompanying garlic bread. Enjoy!
I was impressed by the flavor of the Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations – and so was my 14-year-old daughter, who is one of the pickiest eaters I’ve ever had to cook for! What makes these sausages so tasty is that each one is full of mozzarella cheese, peppers and seasoning.
We will definitely be having this flavor again, but I think that we need to try them all – you know, for research…
