We’re not saying you’ve got to do it only once, especially if you happen to live anywhere we might mention in this article. But what we’re saying is that, traveler or not, you have got to do yourself a favor and experience one of these moments at least once in your life! So, with that, let’s kick off our list.
1. Climb A Mountain
I don’t care which mountain you decide to climb, whether it’s Kilimanjaro, Mount Fuji, Torres Del Paine or Mont Blanc. What’s important is that at least once in your life, you hike to the very top of a mountain, because believe me when I tell you that this experience will have an everlasting impact on your life.
You will never be the same person after you’ve gone through the hardship of hiking up a mountain. When you’re testing yourself and taking things it to the limit, it builds you in more ways than you realize. Sure, it will kick you in the butt and show you how important fitness is, however, the truth is that it will not only push you physically, but more importantly, mentally. You need mental endurance to keep going. In fact, you could easily be pretty fit, but trust me, you won’t get anywhere without willpower.
If there’s something you’re going to take away from this, is that sticking to something hard will prove incredibly rewarding afterward, and will help you change your perspective when it comes to everyday situations which will seem quite mundane in comparison. You will be stronger mentally, and you will become that person who will calmly evaluate a situation and find a solution instead of going into full panic mode. That’s because when you’re hiking up a mountain, you’re going to easily find out that all sorts of things can happen.
Maybe your foot starts hurting, or you fall, or you cut yourself, whichever it is, at that moment in time, you can’t panic. You have to calmly evaluate the situation and come up with a solution. You might also need to compromise, so you can’t be picky, you have no luxury to be picky. So, with that kind of mentality, everyday problems will become much easier to handle. The bottom line is that this experience will teach so much that I just cannot put it into words. You have to go through it to understand exactly what I am talking about.
2. Visit The Grand Canyon
For starters, the Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world, and let me tell you that the sight of it alone is a marvel. I mean it covers a tremendous 1,217,403 acres of land. Secondly, unlike other places, it is fairly easy to access.
Thirdly, it is a massive natural structure that dates back millions of years ago, as it is believed to have been carved out by the Colorado River during the past six million years. Moreover, there are rocks there that have been found to be 2 billion years old. How’s that for standing the test of time?
Fourthly, there are so many different species of wildlife and flora. There are beavers, bobcats, squirrels, bears, badgers, foxes, jackrabbits, mule deer, bighorn sheep, coyotes, raccoons, bats, mountain lions, mountain sheep and so much more!
Lastly, the list of activities you can do here is endless. You can take a balloon tour or helicopter ride, go on a short hike, go on a rafting trip, go mountain biking, take a desert Jeep tour, camp overnight or ride a train through the Grand Canyon. Heck, you can even ride a mule!
And if you want a jaw-dropping scene that will imprint in your memory forever, then take in the view on the Skywalk, which is 4,000 feet above the bottom of the canyon.
3. Visit Some Of The Most Fascinating Historical Sites In The World
I’m talking about places that date back to the very beginnings of civilization like Knap of Howar, the Pyramids, Stonehenge, the Megalithic Temples, the Colosseum, the Parthenon, Easter Island, Machu Picchu and so on and so forth.
These sites and structures are to be admired in the flesh and not on some laptop screen. These kinds of structures will make you feel like you don’t even know half the things humans have accomplished throughout the centuries. You will feel transported to a different time and place.
Plus, visiting an old structure will make you see things differently and through a different lens. Being able to admire such structures from a close proximity will instill in you a new form of appreciation and understanding of what humankind can accomplish, and of how we have come a long way since then.
4. Spend A Night At A Luxurious Casino
If you want to keep it classic, you know where to go. Las Vegas will always be the number one spot for this kind of experience. However, contrary to what people might think, the casino experience is big in many other countries.
In fact, the biggest casino in the world isn’t in Las Vegas, but in Macau China. The Venetian Macao is modeled on its sister casino in Las Vegas, The Venetian, and covers an area of 980,000 m2. It is also the seventh-biggest building in the world! Can you imagine walking into this gigantic building? That would certainly be a night you won’t forget!
Although, this is not to say that there aren’t other fascinating, luxurious casinos all over the world. In fact, there a great number of nice ones to choose from like the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, Trilenium Casino in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Casino Estoril in Lisbon, Portugal, and oh my goodness, the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort in Ontario, Canada. The latter one is definitely in the top five best casinos in the WORLD.
“When it comes to stunning views, nobody can beat the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort. It’s built on a cliff overlooking the Horseshoe Falls, and remains the largest casino ever built in Canada. Opened in 2004, it was a $1 billion investment by the Government of Ontario. It features a massive 3,000 slot machines and 100 gaming tables. The selection of table games is very extensive, from classics like blackjack to Let it Ride poker games. The Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort is actually just a part of the 374-room luxury hotel it comes with. Also in accompaniment of a full service spa and fitness centre, dozens of shops and restaurants, the Avalon Theatre (which sometimes puts on complex productions of Broadway hits) and over 30,000 sq. feet of meeting and convention space. Bottom-line: it’s really big.” – Casinos.co, professional casino reviewers
At least once in your lifetime, you owe it to yourself to physically enter a room full of smart-dressed people, and frolic around, with a drink in your hand and a stash of cash in the other.
5. Go Somewhere You Can Experience Culture Shock
Get out of your comfort zone. If you live in a European country and have been traveling to other European countries all your life, you really have no idea how much you’ve been missing out on! Spend at least a month in a country you have no knowledge about.
Visit Eastern countries like India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, China. Get to know the locals in some of Japan’s most beautiful villages, visit the Tibetan Buddhist monks in China, experience the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Thailand, discover tribal life in Indonesia., taste the local food… You get the gist.
6. Go Somewhere Where History Will Shake You To The Core
Here, I’m talking about places like Auschwitz, Poland. Travel experiences should not always be just about fun. Sometimes, you need to step foot on the ground of a tragedy to truly feel and understand the horrors that have taken place in history, and how the events that happened long ago still affect us to this very day.
This is what you will feel walking past the streets of where people before you suffered, and see the atrocious conditions in which these people had to live. When you look at the housing quarters for prisoners where one bed had to be shared amongst eight people, the “bathroom”, which simply consisted of holes lined up next to each other with absolutely no privacy, the wall of death, the gas chamber, and the crematoriums at the back of the camp. And just when you think you’ve seen enough, and wish it was all a dream, reality hits you even harder when you see the exhibit of the evidence of the crimes committed.
This time, you will come to see another side of humanity, a very dark side, and you will continuously question how evil humans can possibly be. But amidst all the horrible things that you will see, you will also realize that the past can teach us a lot about the present and the future.
7. Go Extreme Ziplining In Costa Rica
Last, but certainly not least, you absolutely have to go zip-lining! You can go wherever your heart desires, but I personally recommend you go to Costa Rica for an unparalleled experience. You can choose to zipline through the rainforest, over a huge waterfall or even towards volcano!
Of course, there are various levels and degrees of ziplining, some of them will not be as high and as long, so people can freely choose what they feel they can handle. Plus, if they manage to conquer their fear with the shorter ones, they can always choose to take things up a notch if brave enough.
But if you really want to go all in the first time around, then you should go for extreme ziplining. The amazing rush you get from whisking yourself in mid-air and hundreds of feet off the ground is exceptional. Even if you aren’t afraid of heights, we guarantee you’ll still get butterflies in your stomach when you’re all strapped and about to take the plunge.
Ziplining is considered to be one of the top adventure activities, and it’s no wonder why! The breathtaking views, the adrenaline rush, the feeling of freedom! Heck, ziplining is just one of those activities you can never get bored of. In fact, once you experience it, you will want to do it over and over again in various places around the world.
